False friends – pension

It seems like cruel irony that having returned to the UK, where for reasons of a real plan to return to Uni for my MSc in September, I’ve found myself working in the very company I fled to go to Korea. I have a slightly worse job and earn considerably less. The department I’m now working in is pensions.

Irony upon irony, in Korea this is a pension, the word borrowed from the French for a nice little rentable house in the mountains or at a beach. From cheep and cheerful, to expensive and luxurious.

This is an image the word ‘pension’ in England might conjure up.

A sad old man.

I used to teach English in Korea. I used to write in this blog reasonably regularly for a fair while, take a read why not?
